Dan Harris told me to do this

I am a HUGE fan of Ten Percent Happier, and one thing Dan has said multiple times is to never worry alone. To that end, I spent the better part of this morning carpet bombing my text chain with anxiety after anxiety. It’s all work-related, so any sane person would be able to step back and say that things are actually fine, you just need a new job. And they would be correct. I aspire to view my own life with that level of cool-headedness. Anyway, the stream of consciousness diatribe - get ready - actually DID make me feel better. Dan Harris, if you’re reading this (Dan Harris will never read this), it turns out you are on to something here. My wise non-Dan Harris non-parasocial friend also advised me to make a list of things small and large to look forward to and that can help me to move out of this room full of microwaved goo. Eckhart Tolle warned about working too hard to make a solution fit, I’m trying not to do that, and I think that’s why this list of small things to do makes me feel so much better. I can do this. It will all be ok. Right? RIGHT????

Quote from my dad after 9/11 happened and I was so young and so terrified:

“Here is some of my fighter pilot logic. When things occur that are beyond our control, we can only respond in the best way we can. Worrying about things that may happen is non productive and may make us incapable of responding appropriately. God controls events that encompass us and He has reasons for testing us. He also gives us the strength and means to respond. Put your faith in God and press on with your life.”

Man, do I miss him.
